Well, if your into racing, it keeps the hood from flying off. If your like most of us Mustang owners, it's just for that 'Classic Mustang / Muscle Car Look'

Install was not hard. Just take your time. For a good selection of hood pins, check out http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp

Where did you get your Side Pony Emblems? And did they have pins to replace your GT emblems, or did they just cover the holes?

I have a V6 and I am looking for Side Pony Emblems since I pulled my Stripes that said "Mustang".

I installed this set form summit racing, they were more expensive than most, but I wanted torsion pins and 1/2" posts as well as the scuff plates top and bottom. It was a little nerve racking to drill into my hood, but in the end they look awesome!

Mine had 4 location pins on them. One on each corner. I cut off the sides and bottom ones and used the top pin into the top hole left behind the GT emblem. That way, I know they are both in the same exact location. I added 3M automotive double-sided tape to stick them on. They have not moved in 2 1/2 months, and many car washes! Mine were made for a 66 / 67 Mustang and are nice heavy metal one's.

Here's a place that sells stick-on emblems. Not sure of the quailty though.

I've done it before on other cars but not the 05 mustang. The install is fairly simple. The hardest part of the job is getting up the nerve to drill a hole in the hood of your nice new car. Once it's finished, you'll be glad you did.

Just as a note, the lanyards look cool but over time the plastic on them wears out and if you don't notice it, it will scratch up your car. An alternate mounting location for the lanyards is on the hood pin scratch plate, or you can do away with it all together. It really does not serve any function other then keeping track of you hairpin retaining clips while the hood is open.

One other alternative for the retaining clips is to use locking hood pins. They have a round key on the top instead of a retaining pin. This way you don't have to worry about the lanyards scrathcing the car, or loosing the clips.

Are you talking about the original style that came on the Mach I? I really like those a lot. I believe the cap looked like a Mercedes emblem in the middle. It gave your fingers something to grip on and they were spring loaded.
Yup, those are the ones. I just can't find the link now.

Thanks. I do too. You can run the cables to loop to the inside or outdside. I like the inside look. Mine are the Sumitt Racing one's. I picked these, because the hairpins stand-up. On the others, they lay on thier side.

Mine are: SUM-G3870

I appreciate the link!! [PW... add these hood pin links to your thread, man!]

05SatinSilver: How did you attach the plates to the hood? Small sheet metal screws or rivets? Are the lanyards vinyl coated?

I just ordered a set today from Kevin at Clevenger Ford ( clevparts@aol.com ). He has them for left/ right sides of course, and I was surprised at how cheap they were (8 bucks each I think). They're adhesive backed, no pins.
