Default Transmission service for manual trans

I got my fuel filter changed at my dealer and they said it was a 30,000 mile service and I needed to service my transmission. I don't trust them all that much and told them to just do the fuel filter. My question is, what needs to be done to a manual transmission at 30,000+ miles?

On my Chilton Repair manual it mentions an automatic transmission fluid change at 30k but nothing on manual.

It does advise checking the lubricant fluid level.

Only real service mentioned to manual trans is at 60k or 48 months which ever comes first.

- Change manual trans lubricant.

- Change rear axle (differential) lubricant.

Maybe your dealership knows something the repair manual dosent?

I don't have the Ford recommended info handy at the moment but I wasn't planning on servicing mine until 60K. It would be less if I ran track or drove city but 95% of my driving is highway in 5th gear...

A 2008 with 30k miles? Wow, you put on more miles/month than I do!

It will be exactly one year old on the 20th of this month. But, most of the miles were traveling back and forth 125 miles away to a home I was fixing up and selling. This is my only car so I had to drive it. But, hey, I love driving every minute of it. This is such a nice car. I had a 67' Mustang and loved that too when I was 16 but this is a much better car in all respects.

It would be wise to service a manual transmission and rear end early on. I know the service interval is 60K. Fine and dandy. But both those items break-in, just like an engine. Only difference is, there is no filter on those two like the engine. All the shavings that dont stick to the magnet once its full just circulate around. Not so good if ya think about.
An early change, then 60K after that. So many people think about the engine, yet neglect these two.

I changed the transmission fluid after 60K and 10k after I had the 4:10s installed.
