Cervinis lower side scoops ordered! Problems with prepping?
okay so i was searching this morning on places to order the scoops from so i ended on ordering them from cervinis since the total price including shipping was only $179 which was the same price the third part companies offered so i figured id get them from the makers....
when i spoke with stage3, they said that the prepainted scoops were an additional $190 on top of the $179 for prep and painting....well i spoke with a buddy of mine who owns a body shop and he said he'd paint them for me for $90...
well, with this in mind, and in combination with hearing that these scoops require a lot of prep work, is there something tricky about prepping them or is that just heresay?

I had a buddy who prepped mine too, and he said they were a total pain in the ***. I do not know what it was that gave him so much trouble. Maybe Pascal would be the person to ask about that.
Test fit, test fit, test fit!!! When you get them in test fit them to the car and see if you have any high or low spots that will need to be reduced or filled in. Also, the release agent that they use to get the scoops out of the mold needs to be cleaned off really good so read how to do it in the paperwork that comes with them to find out how to get it off. The best thing to do is to let the body shop take care of any fitment problem but you know thats going to cost ya.
I did my side scoops myself.. the prep work wasnt that hard... just making sure the primer is nice and smooth and the paint job/clear coat is done right.. its such a small area wasnt hard at all.. but a i already had the paint and gun already..
The scoops are urethane and the mold release that Cervinis uses requires a fair amt of prep to remove the mold release from the parts. Other than that use a good primer and lots of clear and the fitment is great for most if not all the parts I have on my car. Want any pics let me know.
Mine have been at the body/paint shop for almost 3 weeks now. Now this place is known to be very slow to begin with, but they did have to spend a lot of time on prep. I also have a roush hood scoop there as well.
I just found out I could have got them already painted at stage 3 motorsports. I sure wish I would have b/c it would have cost me about the same and I could have had them on my car over a month ago. ARG!
From now on, I will only get parts that are already painted if I can help it. A hood may be a different story though. But if I do ever get a different hood, I'm going to a diff body shop instead of this slower than hell one.

okay thx for the tips...ill make sure the body shop knows that these normally require good prepping to remove the mold release agent from the scoops, good prime, and lots of clear....
since you say they dont come with a mesh grille, do they at least come with a black plastic insert type of piece that sits in it so you dont see all the way to the back of it???
