I have a Magellan, mainly because I got it on sale. I got this particular model because it is supposed to receive traffic alerts through fm. Forget that--it NEVER posts alerts until it is way too late anyway. I never even use that feature anymore. Save your money and get a basic model. Also, if I had it to do over again, I would not get the Magellan. The Garmin interface is MUCH easier to use. There is no map scroll function on the Magellan like there is on the Garmin, and that's one feature I'd use all of the time if I had it. Also, it's impossible to update Magellan maps. The Magellan often gives odd directions. I don't know if the Garmin or Tom Tom are the same. So I'd go with one of the lower end Garmins if you want bang for the buck. Second choice would be a TomTom.

TomTom One XL is the bomb!! Just make sure you get the newer one with the builtin RDS and pay for the service... the real time traffic avoidance makes all the difference....

I'd go with a garmin i love mine, its the nuvi 200w, has all the features that i need it for. My dad has the nuvi like 800 or something like that with all the bells and whistles on it which is cool but i just don't need all that stuff. They have a lot of models out there so you can kinda choose what features you like or think you might need.
