Problems finding a GT
OK. I guess I am just screwed.

I had previously owned a 1989 5.0 GT, 25th aniv ed., I bought new. 6 years later it was totaled by a DUI driver who creamed me from the rear. At least I still have the window sticker and keys. (including the big oval key for the hatchback!)
so after a blazer and a sedan, I want my Mustang back!
Now the bad news. I cant get one.
I live around Dallas, and the market conditions here are thus:
Extreme limited avialability of GT's. A very large dealer might have 2. Have also looked around other citys - San Antonio, Houston, and points in between!
Most go within 5 days or so. Current avg listing is about $32K. Roush around 36k and Saleens around 46K.
that is it. $32,000 up from a sticker of $24-27,000. One dealer said that they are just pricing it in accordance with what the market will bear. (I guess that is like $300 per sheet plywood 24 hours before the hurricane hits)
All area Dealers I called also refuse to honor any x-plans. Called Ford, they said the only absolute exclusion is the "GT" (you know, the $130K car), but Mustangs and Mustang GT's are valid x-plan cars. At the end of the day - Ford says any dealer can refuse to honor the plan price. (so what good is having a plan price to begin with! All GM dealers must accept the discount for comparisson.)
The dealer says they loose money with the x-plan. I asked Ford this during my call, and they say BS. FoMoCo remits a checck to the dealer to reimburse them the diference of the x-plan price (a varying % over dealer invoice) VS MSRP. However if the dealer sells the car OVER MSRP, then I guess they would loose money.
Could it be that those of you that got the GT with an x-plan did so before the supply dried up?
Guys, I really want this car, but for $32,000 - $36,000, I would think I should just get the new hemi Daytona edition for $32K. I think the mustang is a good car in the printed sticker ranges, but over $29,000 or so, there are other performance car options, with much more interior features and electronics like GPS, DVD etc.
So my question is, Any ideas of how to get into a GT for the right price? Or am I just a victim of poor foresight by ford, and forced to live with the market conditions?
Does any one else agree that $32,000 is too much for a premium coupe with a shaker 500?
to put it into perspective, in 1989, my GT cost me $12,900 new. I also had at least 10 to choose from, but I wanted a blue w/standerd trans. 1 day later, the dealer traded and I had my car. Again, don't get me wrong. I agree that current MSRP is a fair price for the GT. But way over MSRP is just hard to accept.
Boy how times have changed.[sm=WTFsgign.gif]

Sometimes you have to go way out of your area. All I get from your post is that you want a premium Mustang GT. ANy idea on options, color etc? There are alot of people here from many different area and would be happy to let you know if there are any in their area. It is unfortunate that many dealers are taking advantage of people like this and they wouldn't get my business. I would look elsewhere for one even if I had to ship it to me.
The dealership where I got mine from will not charge over MSRP unfortunately I'm in VA.and I have not seen any GT'S there for a while. The only one I saw was at a cruise-in the guy was not driving it and was leaving the stickers on it and asking 29,500 for the car windveil blue.
I bought mine back in Feb and ordered it back in Nov. If you can wait you should put in an order in for an 06'. I live in Tempe AZ, and the dealership up up the street from me has two GT's but they put a $5500 "premium dealer charge" on them so yes all dealer's seem to be taking advantage of the demand.
check out bluebonnet ford in new braunfels...they are one of the biggest dealerships in texas. when i left new braunfels last week, they had 2 roush's, 3 saleens, and a couple gt's...call them and see what they have...also champion ford here in houston has a gt outside but i dont know any details about it...
Try asking a dealer if you order one, if they'll honor the x-plan.
I'm getting an 06 on the x-plan. The dealer I found is 60 miles from my house but only 10 miles from work. My local dealer tried to scam me so I went to these guys. No problem.
Hell, If I were you and you knew what you wanted, I'd call other states. Particularly one's with lower sales tax, give them a deposit, then just fly out to pick it it up. A ticket might be what $150 and x-plan is what $200 over invoice so you're still making out good.
