Question Gear Install

I am thinking about installing gears in my stang. How much of a difference will I notice in a N/A 05 GT? The car has 3:55's in it now and I am trying to decide between 3:73's, 3:90's, or 4:10's. What would you recomend? I do take the car on the highway every once in a while but mostly just around town. Also, if I decided to install them myself, how difficult would that be or should I just spend the extra bucks and have a shop install them? What is the normal cost for a shop to install them? Any help would be great.

This is something you definetly DO NOT wanna mess up on. I'd get someone who specializes in differentials/gears to do this..Dont know a ballpark figure of what someone would charge but, its worth it. To feel the difference in your set-up, I'd go 4.10

Manual?
4.10's!

I'm still stuck trying to figure out whether I wanna go 4.10 or 3.73 in my auto.

get 4.10s....do it....now!!

it was probably one of the best mods i've done. definately feel a kick in the pants from 3.55s. definately have a shop do the install, you'll be looking $200-$400 usually for labor

where in texas are you located? i know some good shops around Houston if you are close. Gears are a pain the butt on these cars... if you havent done them yourself before i wouldnt recommend trying, unless you are okay with gear whine. Install around houston area is about 300 dollars, think i paid like 265.

OH HAI!

I think 3.73 is best for auto since it's similar to 4.10 on manual. If you don't do a lot of highway driving then 4.10 would probably be ok. Otherwise the RPMs will be too much (unless you like the car screaming all the time).

I decided on 3.73. Should be a good difference from the 3.31.

A shop near me told me 500 including gears and labor. I ended up doing mine myself, it was fun

4.10s here and mine is an auto. It really makes a huge difference on acceleration but the RPMs are up there when you are cruising down the highway. I am sure the gas mileage suffers but with mine I have so many other mods and race tune my mileage is in the dirt anyway.

4.10's for manual or AUTO and if you can find ones made by FRPP and NOT motive it would lessen the chance of whine. Find a great installer first before buying that understands the S197 rear diff....get a warranty against whine too.
