Choices...
Get the GT. 20 years from now you'll be glad you did.
I have a V6 Automatic, but I'm old, I have a left foot injury (clutch sucks for me) and I'm too conservative (boring). I test drove a GT a few weeks ago. Loads of fun! It's not just the engine. Consider the better handling suspension. I would get in trouble with that car for sure. I may still trade in on a GT if the price is right (I'd miss the Screaming Yellow, but you can't go wrong with black).
You can always mod the GT a little at a time. Look for deals on used parts. Learn how to wrench and squirt paint.
Or, take the dough you'd spend modding/trading and get a bike.
Chicks dig fast cars, bikes...and scars.

Okay, so it will come down to the test drive, which won't happen tomorrow. Well, it may, but it won't be the one down in Georgia. That road trip didn't get approved by the parentals.
So, if I do decide to go this route, I will have to sell my V6. I can't trade it in, because I won't get enough money to make this possible. If I trade it in, KBB says around $7,200. Leaving me needing around $8,000. Privately, however, my car is worth around $9,800. Leaving only $5,000.
So, what should I list my car at? It is a Black 2005 Manual V6 with 46,000 miles on it. I need to get as much as I can for it to make this work out.
Also, reallistically, what should I aim for when going for the GT? It's listed at $15,900, which is way below KBB for the car so I don't know how much they'll go. What should I try to get them down to?
And, one last one. Should I a) wait until I get enough money to pay the difference or b) make the down payment with the money I have now and then pay the difference in monthly payments with the money I earn until the difference is payed off?
Thanks,
HT

I came up with $9,285 on KBB. I may try something higher ($10,000-$10,500) so that maybe I can get a good amount...
I still don't know if I can do it if I get 10K. I'll still need $5,900 unless I can talk them down a little...
We'll see. This will be a close one money wise.
If I could get some more opinions on the questions I asked above that would be great. Thanks Matt for the response.

If you have the bread get the GT and do the options you were going to do for the V6!!!!
Ask 14K for the GT and settle on higher if the dealer wont go any lower.
Sell the V6 for 8.5K and settle for no less then 7.5K..... if it worked out that way you would only owe 6.5K if the V6 was payed off and you applied all funds to the GT.....hopefully that helps as I did not read the whole thread!

We paid $13,900 for the V6 a little over a year ago. We still owe like $9,800, so, if I can possibly work it out, we'll try to break even there. It will be tough though. I went on autotrader and based off of those prices on there for my car (it's got leather) it could be listed at $11,000. I found 2 in my area. One was at $12,000 with 27,000 miles on it and the other was at like $10,900 with like 60,000 miles on it. I know it's high, but what's the harm in trying. Maybe listing it there will allow us to break even.
Regardless, my parents will still pay the remaining $10,000, either on my car or the GT. So, I'm left with the difference no matter what. So, the amount left is not important.
What is important, however, is how I should go about this. Right now, I'm sitting on $1,800. So, obviously, I'd like to be sitting in a GT ASAP. My plan is to use the $1,800 as a down payment on it and then go with monthly payments from there. Then, my monthly payments will be higher but my parents will pay the same. I'll pay the excess monthly as I get it.
Will that work? At first my dad was dead set on me raising the difference before I got the GT but now he says he will "cipher" (not sure how you spell that) on it. Otherwise, I need $4,000 before I can even think about this. What will the difference in monthly payments be (estimated, if this is even possible)? I'm sure my dad can find out. I can only scrounge up around $200-$300 a month...
So, barring any complications, it's a go. Insurance prices must be checked. Payment issues must be "ciphered," but the outlook is possitive. Not to mention, I have to sell my V6 in an awful economy...oh boy.
But, it's looking okay. Maybe I'll have the 2 cylinder mod finished up soon...
If I can shave the difference down to $5,000 then we are off to the races. That would leave me with $3,000 to go. I could do that rather quick. And then, pretty time. Oh, what my mind is going through right now. If I can pull all of this off...

Here you go bro...plug in your "potentials" and see where your payment falls.

So, I drove a GT today.
A 2009 to be exact. I wasn't blown away like I thought I would be...
A few things I did notice,
- Clutch is much softer
- Cabin is much quieter
But I'm not sure...I think I expected to really feel the extra 100 HP but I just didn't. Yeah, it was obvious that it is more powerful than my V6, but it wasn't something that just screamed at me. Maybe it was the fact that it was quieter, which surprised me. I expected it to be louder, but maybe that was just a difference in 4 years. I assume it sounded much better on the outside. And also, being quieter gives me more leeway when it comes to exhaust upgrades. The parents won't whine as much about noise.
Also, I was driving a new GT at one of our local dealerships, so the salesman was in the back. Maybe I would have been able to feel the power more if I could actually push the car. I don't think I ever went above 3,500-4,000 RPM's. Am I missing something because I stayed low or is it basically the same feel in the higher RPMs?
I don't know. Based off of what I felt, it would be a much better investment. Feel wise, it just wasn't what I expected. Am I missing something?

I think you should have seen more of what the car could do. If you would have done a little more "spirited driving" you would have had a different experience
.
I had a totally different test drive.
My salesman told me to drive down one street, turn right onto the interstate onramp and gun it
. On the interstate he told me to downshift and gun it again. We probably had it up to 80 or so easy.
I think he thought it would sell the car, but he didn't even have to do it...I had already made up my mind before I got there
