Do it. You will never look back and you won't care that you have stock bumpers. The sound/power/bragging rights is so worth it.

Please don't let this post make me sound like a snob. I really don't mean to sound like one.
This is a typical response you will see here. Not a dig on the poster...he is a good guy.

Since we have both in the family now (the old man just got a GT) I can compare both quite well.

First, I am pushing 40 and pay cash for cars...so money isnt a real concern. Yeah, I drive a girly 6. Do I have a problem doing so? Heck no. I love my car and it will be around for quite some time. I chose the 6 beacuse it made more finacial sense to do so and I love the looks of the Pony Package.

With all the talk about how ridiculously poor performing the 6 is (on the GT side) you would think it is an Escort or Pinto. I did drive a GT when my car was in for the Sirius to be fixed...but it was commuting and didn't feel much different than mine.

So last weekend, the old man talked me into going to the track to break in his new GT right (he is the track junky, not me)...but it was a good time nonetheless. The result?

The girly 6 was within a second on every run except one I blew. 14.6 average to 13.6 average. Over a 1/4? That is all? I did take a few runs in the GT...and granted it pulls harder after the 1/8th...but there just was not that much of a difference. To the 1/8th we were within a length every time. Is the 6er almost as fast? Not a chance...but it is no slouch either.

Lets keep in mind the S197 6 puts up exactly the same numbers as Sn95 GT's. Remember when those were considered fast cars?

OP...your big unknown is the insurance. Most of us here have kids your age...so we are not good barometers as we pay next to nothing for insurance. I think my full coverage is $660 a year on three cars and three motorbikes... so you can see I have no insight into teen prices. However, I do recognize that is a huge concern to young people as I have seen several threads where young folks were paying $200 a month or more in insurance.

The 6 to 8 decision may be very easy once you lay out all the pros and cons...that insurance question has to be answered though. Once you have that piece...rock on.

The Mustang you are considering is the Premium version.

It is a tough decision, you are going about it right though. Compare the two as much as possible while taking into consideration what you REALLY want and CAN afford. If you can finacially work a GT then I would go for it . From your previous post it sounds like you are more concerned with appearance mods than performance. So you could buy a GT and do some apperance mods(when money permits) and be done.

You have a tough decision to make for sure. I have a GT and love the performance. However I have a friend with a V6 that can blow my doors off "IF" we raced because of a power-adder (turbo) plus driver mod (he has been racing carts and motorcycles his whole life). I can't/won't say one is better than the other, they are different just be happy that you are in a position to have a choice. At your age I was blessed with the privilege of buying my older brothers Junker when he left for the Navy. Good luck and let us know what you do.

Thanks everyone for all the responses. Every post has been helpful to me. Please keep them coming.

Oh, one more thing, what are the different trim levels for the GT? You told me that the one I am looking at is a Premium version. What are the differences?

Check out the dealer that the mustang I listed came from. They have an amazing selection of insane cars. Maybe that bodes well for the quality. Aston Martons, Lambos, Audis, Bentleys...

It's insane. Maybe this also accounts for the lower price. This car is kind of like a toy to them.

Very nice GT pictured. You can make that look great for cheap. However it may not be the Cervini styling you're wanting. Aside from Wheels I've done modest cheap mods that include lowering, bullitt grille, Cervini side scoops, Cervini Mach chin and all for about $700. Wheels and tires make or break a vehicle though so that is always the first to go. They were $1500.

I'd get the GT. Hands down.

The more I look at that car and the others they have in stock the more I feel like a Friday road trip is in order...

I would go just to see the Shelby and the Lambo...

Their stock is insane.
