These oil threads always take a turn for brand preference...which is just silly.

There is no (as in zero) independent testing ever done that any brand of oil is superior to another (in the same class). In fact, just the contrary.

Only in the US do we place so much emphasis on branded oils...and only in private sales. Look to industries where oil is ACTUALLY important (as in life critical applications (aviation for instance)) and you will find them using bulk oil.

Run the oil type specified by the manufacturer. The manual clearly defines the requirements and change interval...and afterall, Ford DID design the motor. Not anyone on Bobistheoilguy, not here and certainly no scamsoil salesman.

Maybe the Platinum really is better stuff. But didn't Quaker State have to modify their own marketing approach a bit once they merged with Pennzoil?

It's not a matter of brand preference with me. What I found when I got to look inside following consistent use of Pennzoil was not something I liked.

Unfortunately, yes. Don't think there was any choice at the time. Still have a couple quarts of 10W40 left, actually (went out to the garage and checked).

Hmmm, I dunno...You're saying that the manufacturers package different oils in the exact same jugs then distribute it to different selling points according to the quality? So would a large auto parts chain get lower quality oil than a smaller one?

I think wally's and sam's is just able to demand, "if you want your oil in our store you're going to sell it to us for lower cost". I may be very wrong but I can't believe a brand like Mobil for example, would risk their reputation packaging a lower quality product in this case.

Avoid Pennzoil like the plague.
You want a good synth like Mobil1 Full
Synthetic thats loaded with the needed Zinc
for proper engine wear......
I agree whole heartedly. Back in the day (late 70's early 80's), Pennzoil had a really high paraffin content. I don't know if they ever changed their formulation because I've always avoided it since then. The wax would build up in the engine, I've seen that first hand. I can't speak for their Platinum, but I figure anyone who put out oil formulated like they used to, either didn't know what they were doing - or didn't care.
