Default Underhood Spring-Loaded Switch

Anyone know what the switch on the passenger side of the engine compartment does when you raise/lower the hood? It would appear to be an alarm for the PCM to let you know that your hood is unlatched, but I can't find any write-up stating the purpose.

I want to switch some underhood lighting by this switch if possible.

It should be for the factory alarm.

Thanks Casey.

Do you know if it's just a simple on-off switch or does it have any logic attached.

Thanks,

Any pics? I don't recall a switch and I have the factory alarm. I'd go look but I'm at work and the Stang isn't my DD.

Here's an old pic of mine that shows it,it's the black 'button' next to the fuse box, it's mounted to a little bracket on the inner fender lip.

Hmmmm. And I thought that was for my aftermarket alarm. Wonder if that shows a "door ajar" if the hood is left open, like the trunk.

Yep,
That's the beast... I guess I'll have to do some probing with a multimeter to find out what it does.

The story is that I installed some underhood light fixtures from a '99 Stang on my hood struts a couple of years ago. These have a BB inside that turns on the light when you raise the hood. However, since I changed to the RK hood, I don't slam the hood down any longer. I lower it slowly and use the hood locks to secure it.

Well... needless to say, the BB's don't move if you just slowly lower the hood, and I've run my battery down to nothing twice in the last couple of weeks. Pain in the ***... and that's an understatement!

So, next best thing would be using that switch to provide a ground to my lights and turn them on and off. I don't want to f-up anything, so I'm curious what this switch actually does.

Still interested if anyone has an answer...
