Do you NEED to change them? No. But is it a good idea so that you don't have to deal with the carbon build up issue? Yes.

Get a one piece design, either the champions or the brisks. And follow the TSB

I had mine changed at 70k. Its your call. If you are going to do them yourself, follow the TSB exactly. If you break one, you will have to get a shop to remove it.

take them out, clean them, and put them back in with some anti-seize.

I broke two and was able to get them out. most would have freaked if they saw what i was doing. I took a long philips screwdriver, a nice heavy hammer and banged the crap out of the porcelin until it dropped about 1/4 inch. after that, i used the extractor tool and they came right out.

i thought about just removing them and putting the lube on, but i thought the aftermarket plugs would be better. kill 2 birds with one stone.

Would using a lower quality gasoline cause more buildup on the plugs?

I have about 45,000 mi on mine... car runs fine. Its your money and knuckles.....

if you do, make sure the motor is clean and dry. Dirt in a combustion chamber? Not good.
