Default Track Virgin?

Hey everyone. I plan on heading to the track for the first time ever with any car. I can shift well I'm just worried about launching and etc. I'm running 305 Nitto DR's and I just don't know what exactly the proper procedures are for racing at the track. It's an 1/8th mile track if that helps with anything. Any tips/info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
yc420

Which track you headin to in FL? If you can shift you should be fine getting down the track. The tricky part is the launch. Are these 20in Nitto DRs? With your power level with drag radials you can prob rev up to around 4000-4500 rpm and slip the clutch out at the launch. You could just drop it if you want, but that induces wheel spin. Ive found better 60' times from slipping the clutch out and giving enough throttle just to get it right at the point before the tires want to break loose. Its hard to describe but the best way to become good at it is practice practice practice. There are a few drag racing 101 threads and website you could check out, just go out and have fun, because its a blast!

You should be good since you have DR's and can shift. Pretty much all you'll do is go to the staging lanes and wait till they call your class. Since you have DRs just do your burnout and stage. You'll be able to see the line there will be a box with 2 holes in just roll up to that watching the lights. Good lucck let us know what u run

Thanks guys. I have 18inch DR's. So you guys recommend that I do perform a burnout before the race? Any tips on that? It's basically a brake stand right? Not too good at those lol.

I'm heading to County Line over on US 27; right by Krome Ave.

Yeah cleanin em off wouldnt hurt. I'd lower the PSI a little to on em idk bout nittos but on my BFGs I went about 17 psi and they hooked hard. Maybe someone with them can help ya. Yep all you gotta do is just break torque it. Could go out and practice on a backroad couple times and you'll have it down.

Are there any SPECIFIC instructions on how to properly brake stand? I remember attempting to do it ONCE on the street and I stalled lol. I heard putting the car in 2nd gear, revving up, dumping the clutch, and just holding onto the brakes and gas? Are there any specific tips you can offer? I will try to find a back road and practice.

You don't need to do a real brake stand... from what I've heard a real burnout on DRs will just cause them to get greasy. A quick spin of the tires to clean them up will be your best bet for DRs.

Now if you have street tires, a longer burnout might be more beneficial to warm them up some...

But I've yet to take my car to the strip... this is talk from my motorcycle racing experience at the track.

you will need a few seconds of burnout, once the rears start spinning you want to keep just enough pressure on the breaks to keep the car from moving. if you plan on going to the track much you should get a line lick. i ended up worpping my rear rotor from this kind of burn outs. good luck

Would I be just fine if I drove around the water box and just proceeded with the race from there? Any launching tips besides letting the clutch slip? Man that smell of burning clutch hurts
