Thanks for the replies. I agree on light coats and not to spray the inside. I'll get to it in the next day or 2 since it's supposed to warm up a bit and I want to do it outside. I'm not all that worried about it; just wanted some feedback from those that have done it and what NOT to do. I'm also not too concerned about the MAF since cleaning it, if neccesary, is a no-brainer (for me, at least).

This is an opinon and I like to listen to my own common sence... History has shown going against it is bad...
JMO please dont jump on me
IMO keep the oil filter and im sure the 4 year life of the filter/ cost of the filter is way more then the cost to replace the filter VRS the oil and time to do it right
each to their own,
if you like doing the filter maint. so be it
the synthetic nano fibers > wet gauze type filters in every aspect

Cleaning
EaA filters should be cleaned every year or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Carefully remove the filter from the housing. Clean the housing with a shop towel, being careful not to knock contaminants into the air inlet. Filters can be cleaned by carefully vacuuming the filter media on the dirty side, or by holding the filter with one hand and carefully blowing the filter media at a 45 degree angle on the clean side using low-pressure shop air (15-20 lbs. psi)

here is a good link...

but to put this thread back on track

Nuke the paper towel method has worked in the past before.
if I were still using a "oil" type filter that is what has worked the best for me

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, my kit didn't come with a squeeze bottle oiler; it came with a spray can.

Nuke, again im confused....

My mustang is a daily drive, so right now im running it with the stock filter and stock tune. You said "When you remove the air filter, look inside the inlet tube where the filter attaches and you'll see the MAF"

This means that my stock box has its own MAF and the CAI C&L Filter i bought from Brenspeed the purple filter has its own MAF ?

If that the case then Brent might be correct, cause every time i put back the C&L with the Tune my car wont IDLE correct, will remain in low RPMs and will die, thats why im trying to get that MAF Cleaner.

Thanks!

sorry to hear your having issues but please let me help a bit.
Ok the MAF is transfered from the oem intake tube, Its the small little rectangular insert just left of the intake with the red locking tab.
you shouldnt have to clean it because if the car runs just fine with the stock tune and stock intake, but stumbles and shuts off on the aftermarket intake and tune.... then its either the aftermarket intake is not properly installed or the tune is bad.
1) are you transfering the OEM MAF into the C&L? (there is only 1, the one in the OEM intake tube)
2) Are you installing the tune from brenspeed before starting the car with the C&L intake installed
3) if you have done 1 and 2 and the problem is still there call brenspeed and have them retune the tuner as if its all intalled right it has to be the tune
Good luck to you and I hope all is well
feel free to PM me if you need more

Ok very simple....I have done this many times...get a hold of the K&N oil recharge kit and the instructions are simple. Remove air filter, tap airfilter to remove any loose contaminants like road debris, K&N has a air filter cleaner that is sprayed on the whole filter, now from the inside use a steady flow of water to the filter to push out any embedded dirt and debris, tap it out after and let air dry....(may take a few hours so dont plan on using the car anytime soon), once dry re-oil the filter with the spray can from the outside only until even color (red for K&N) is achieved all the way around. It doesn't take much and let sit for a few minutes. Re apply and make sure everything is tight. Done!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a detailed link from K&N and works for all cotton filter material
http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm

CAUTION: THE USE OF ANY OTHER DRYING METHODS (I.E. COMPRESSED AIR, DRYER HEATERS, HEAT GUNS) COULD DAMAGE FILTER.
IMO there is a lot of misinformation in this thread Nuke and all most people have to do is just read the instructions and follow to letter!

Thanks, mygt500. I sprayed the oil last night after washing it using the cleaner last week and letting it dry for about 6 days (the Stang isn't my DD and I took the SUV out-of-town over the weekend so the filter had more than enough time to dry). I have the Steeda CAI and I hit it with 3 light applications (it wasn't "blue" enough after the 2nd) and wiped it down this morning. I sat the filter on some blotting material by a window so the sun will warm it up today and hopefully any excess will flow some. I'll blot it again and just keep an eye on it for any evidence of excess. Fortunately, I have the luxury of letting it sit since I don't expect to be driving the Stang for another few days. Plus, I'll be picking up the g/f's Legend Lime V6 tomorrow so I can get a "Stang fix" if needed.

IF the filter causes me to throw a CEL, I'll be sure to post how NOT to re-oil.

1.- Ok i was confused, So MAF Sensor is the same for the stock intake and C&L Intake. Yes im using the same for the C&L

2.- Yes, First i installed the C&L Intake then load the tune and then start the car, no codes, no errors, just dead or low RPMs, incorrect IDLE.

3.- I did and they recommended to clean the throttle body BUT i cant get the cleaner in Mexico so i might be getting one from the U.S.A and ask someone to send it to me.

Thanks

damn sorry to hear that... i just really dont think its the MAF
I may be wrong, (its happened before) I could send you some but Im up in canada, Also there could be border issues as that stuff is flamable.. I'll see what i can come up for you man
Ok just for giggles try to load a non custom tune, a canned tune and select all the appropreate selections like intake, See if it still dies on you and if that dont work i would try to bump up the idle...
Im just hell bent that its the tune...
