How much is it going to run me to replace a bad head gasket?

Im thinking of buying this mustang off a friend and all he says is that the 'head gasket is bad'. I was just wondering how much the part/labor would cost from a, lets say, autozone or something... They keep asking me to bring the car in but I just want a quick estimate or something if anyone knows... Ive heard everything from 400-1700... Thanks

You can't call the ford dealer and just ask them for an estimate on a head gasket job?

unless your friend is selling you this car for dirt cheap, he isn't your friend

and do keep in mind that lemons for cars tend to ruin relationships really quickly
