Intersting Comparison
My buddy stopped by yesterday and we traded cars for an hour:
His: 2009 GT/CS White 5spd 3:55 gears. (Totally Stock)
Mine: 2007 Vista Blue 5 spd 4:10's, CAI & 93 tune, Hurst Short Throw.
After driving around in his car for a while I really began to enjoy the ease of the shifter and the quietness of the drive line. No vibrations or rattles and shifting was like butter. Acceleration was not as torque pronounced but it was still fast. His first gear was very usable while mine is not really with 4:10's. If you simply held the rpm longer between shifts you could really get his car hauling.
In conclusion, I kinda thought his setup was more street friendly yet still gave a good bang for being totally stock. Additionally, sometimes mods bring unwanted things with them like increased interior or driveline noise, rattling etc. I guess I walked away from this scratching my head asking myself why am I spending all this money to modify a car that actually runs nice without mods?

I know what you're saying! I just recently got the Hurst Billet short throw installed, and even though I love it, I realized the stock shifter wasn't all that bad.
After hearing your thoughts, I'd be interested in hearing a comparison from him on what he thought. And to answer your question on why you're spending all this money: a) Even though stock is nice, there are always better parts, b) That's what a Mustang is all about, customization, and c) It's our job to stimulate the economy

Hmmm thats very interesting... I just bought a Hurst Short Throw but my car is in the body shop for hood, ductail, Chin, etc so I have not yet had a chance to install. I have heard lots of stories about that shifter (and other STS's) making noise... however most owners love them enough to keep them... If you had to do it all over would you leave the stock shifter alone? Like OHIOSTATE said... I would love to hear your buddies review on your car.

You are not alone. I ask myself the same thing all the time. It's a sickness really... once you get bid by the mod bug...you can't stop modding.

What I would really like to do is figure out if my chrome Hurst stem and white ball could mount on a stock shifter or maybe an MGW? That way I could have the muscle car look that shifts like butter. My shifter is actually a Roush but it has a Hurst stem. Man is it notchy.

STock is good for most people.
Beautiful cars ptaylor! Almost mistook the vista blue as a shelby gt. Dark blue with silver stripes is a very nice combination. I always liked the GT/CS but sticker prices were close to $30k.
