Default Key Mark

I just descoverd that my car has what apears to be a single key mark its not a bunch of marks its just one mark about 2 feet long. It dosent seem like it went threw the paint to the metal but it did scratch threw the clear coat. you can feel it slighlty if you run your fingernail acrost it. is there anyway this can be removed without having to repaint the rear fender because i can live with it before i would repaint it. but its really agreavating that its there. I was told i could probley buff it out but wouldnt that make the paint look dull in that area..? Thanks for your help guys i really appericate it.

Take some polishing compound and put a little bit on an applicator pad, then lightly buff by hand until it's gone, then wash and wax your car.

Quixx scratch remover works wonders. You can get it at Wallmart. The stuff is the bomb.

Watch late night TV and get one of those
amazing clearcoat scratch removal pens from Billy Mays.

Buffing brings out the shine.
It will be shinier there if anything.....
Not duller.
The three thin coats of clearcoat that
the factory put on there is not very thick...

Depending on how deep it's in the clear, you might want to run a 2000 or 3000 grit wetsand on the scratch before shoving polish in there. I would take a bit of dawn to clean all the dirt wax and other stuff that might have gone in the scratch. Then wetsand lightly untill the scratch is no longer visible. Then take rubbing compound for light & medium scrathes and buff it out using an orbital buffer. Wax afterwards and the area will look like it was never scrathed.

Someone 2 months ago decided to key my entire driver side. I got 90% of the scrathes out ( and they were deep )
The only thing that was left visible is on the driver door where the scratch was down to the metal. Which I took touch up paint and dabbed it in there, left it alone for a week, then I wetsanded the area. it's only visible if you stick your nose on it lol

If you want to attemp this and have questions, PM me and I'll walk you through

If its through the clearcoat..youre better off taking it to a good bodyshop or detailer. wetsanding is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced! get it wrong and youll wish you never attemted it. these new cars have too little clearcoat for any mistakes. if you can catch your fingernail in the scratch ..its pretty deep!
