i have a trufiber venom with functional ram air, and a CAI. I have no ducts or anything to keep the water out. I also park the car outside. I have had no probs with water getting in the intake.

However its not my DD and i dont usually drive in the rain.

I don't have "functional" ram air, just the open hood. No problems here and its a DD.

I wouldn't really call that "ram air" as it isn't a closed system from the hood intake to the throttle body. Since the system just opens up above the filter, it's really more of a true cold air intake. Your filter may get wet, but since it isn't submerged, it will act just like an evaporative cooler for the incomming air. I don't think you would be in any real danger unless you are driving in standing water above the hood line, but then you're just asking for trouble. I'd be more concerned with water and debris making a mess of my engine bay. If it's that big of a concern, it wouldn't be difficult to just add a J-trap at the low point of the flow path to catch any free water that might make it's way into the hoods intake.

My hood has this kind of set up and its a DD and has been in heavy rain driving and there is NO issue at all and in fact my filter has never even got wet from it.

I have never had water reach in the air box.
