Not trying to hijack, but what are some of yalls opinions on crates? I mean you can get nice ones under 8k. So the install is going to be more than a SC, but arent crate motors usually hand built? With way better internals? Would there be a good point to buy a crate motor, maybe pay 2-3k more after all is said and done, but have a better motor, than if you would have just FI'ed your stock? Just a question, just gauging everyones opinions, so dont call me out and say its stupid!! Unless it really is =)

+1, what would be the performance difference between just a crate engine, and stock engine FI, price difference between the 2 (installation included)?

keep in mind you will be changing a lot more than just the motor in most cases. Most of the gord racing motors are pushrod as well. None of this ohc crap. My opinion is if u want it go for it but go ***** to the wall put a nice size motor, strong trans, suspension and rear end in and haul some major asssssss.

well the internals are a little stronger so if you were to use some FI it wouldnt hurt ur engine as much. but for that much i woould just look for a 5.4 from a F150. i thought ive seen some crate motors with 350 hp for only near like 4k, just gotta look around.

But why would you use a motor thats heavier and has the same hp as ours? Does the f150 5.4 have stronger internals?

it doesnt have the same hp does it? im not 100% sure about what it is, but im pretty sure if you supercharge them you can get 725 hp out of them, thats what the supersnakes and KR's have in them... dont they?

Found the specs:

5.4L TRITON V-8
V-8 iron block, aluminum heads
330 cu in, 5400 cc
9.8:1
Sequential multi-port electronic SOHC, 3 Valves per cylinder, Variable Camshaft Timing.
300 hp@ 5,000 rpm
365 lb.-ft. @ 3,750 rpm

As far as bhp, the truck is rated the same, but it does have over 40 more lbft tq. I'm not positive, but I'm going to say the GT500 comes with a few forged goodies inside the engine (at least the crank). The GT500 also uses the aluminum, four-valve cylinder heads, piston rings and bearings from the ford GT.

I'm gunna have to say it's not the same engine out of the trucks.
