Default 2nd / 3rd Gear Lockout Questions??

I've read about 2nd and 3rd gear shift lockouts on this and other Mustang sites.

I hope I don't sound too stupid but what exactly are they? I guess I've never experienced them happening.

I've read about getting a new shifter to solve the problem. Is there anything else that can be done.

Thanks for the help.

When the shifter doesnt want to go into gear. Had this problem a few times. Changing to aftermarket shifter helped. But I had it happen still like 2 or 3 times.

I still have the stock shifter and I installed the k-member brace with poly torque limiters and it solved my problem. I gave her hell on the way back from lunch today and she went into second and third under full power with no problems. I would start with the k-member since its only $150 or so shipped and then do the shifter after if you still need help. The only shifter I have heard no complaints about is the mgw and that is closer to $300.
