Default Handheld Tuners

Hey guys, Im seriously considering buying a CAI+tune in the near future. Couple of questions.

First off, realistically, what does this do to the engine of my car? is it better or harder on the engine?

Second, Is there alot of problems associated with the tunes? Any help would be much appreciated

Tuner can be bad on the engine if its not tuned right. CAI will actually probably give you better gas mileage. Only way its really going to be harder on the engine is because of your right foot.

No problems with mine or any of my family member's (4 other mustangs in the family) tuners.

The tunes are only damaging if not correct OR if you're beating the car with the more aggressive tune. Most problems arise from bad tunes so stick with proven tuners like Brenspeed and Bama. Occasionally even one of their tunes MAY have a problem but they're both quick to rectify it.

I'm in the process of selling my ride and have de-tuned it back to stock. If you are, or anyone else is interested, I have a C&L aluminum intake tube and filter with the SCT2 tuner bought from Brenspeed. I am asking $450 for the setup. I'm thinking it may need to be updated to your ECM/computer code as I recall. Anyway, PM me if your interested. Oh, yes you will love the difference it will make to the performance of your car. It will really wake it up!!

The ECM or computer has a special code that was required for the tuner programing. I'm sure Brenspeed with tell you waht needs to be done in order for the tuner to work for your car. You mmay be lucky and find one that is the identical setup as the one being sold. I'm not sure how many ecm code variations there are, but they need to match. I have read that people who have bought used tuners have had problems loading the tune when the ECM code hasn't been updated. The dealer may even be able to update the ECM to the exact code the tuner is. I'm thinking it may be easier to have Brenspeed sent you the correct code and use the serial cable to update the tuner. That way the dealer doesn't have to be involved. Also, beware, some people are trying to sell tuners with the stock tune on them which doesn't do you any good as the tuner is then only useable on the original car the tuner was used on.

Anyone that buys mine I will update it before I ship it.

Mine is an auto and it does have features for an automatic so you can set shift points (RPMs) I believe. I haven't messed with mine much. I just loaded a tune and ran with that.

Features:
Full User adjustability so if you so choose you can adjust idle, axle gear ratio, tire revolutions per mile, rev limiter, automatic trans shift points, spark, and air fuel. Your custom tune will not require any of these changes. We install the features on the programmer as some customers like access to them.

I was concerned about the same things as you and went for a dyno tune from Tillmans and could not be happier. Well worth the $$ and NO ill side effects at all.
