Those with 3.73s in an Auto
So I'm thinking about getting 3.73s, I know gear threads are beat to death but most are 4.10 and manuals, I want to know how those with 3.73s in there slush boxes like them. Did they do much for 1/4 mile, and just in general was there a difference that was worth it? I drive on the highway so I don't want 4.10s

what are you current gears?
3.31
My Bullitt has the 3.73 OEM installed. Granted I have a stick though. The 3.73 is very nice. I can lay her sideways if I hit 2nd gear hard...and acceleration is quite peppy.
I'm only at 240 miles currently, so no burnouts yet. But starting easy and then pegging the throttle, I can break them loose at times depending on the road surface.
So that is with a stick. Allow for some more slippage with your slushbox. It's going to be fun. You will notice the difference from your 3.31 to the 3.73...but it won't be exactly dramatic.
Mainly you will see a bit quicker launch, and then at highway speeds, the O/D will be able to accelerate easier without kicking it down to 3rd.

BTW, you should ask for highway RPM's and city RPM's and Tire size. Make sure they have the same height tires as yours.
nothing else. Get people to post up their 3.31 RPM's, 3.73 RPM's, and the 4.10 RPM's.
IMO, if you are going to drop the $500-700 you might as well jump straight to 4.10's. You say you drive alot of highway...but how much higher are your RPM's truly going to be?
200-300 RPM is a very easy sacrifice in my eyes for the performance gains...equals out to be 1-1.5 mpg loss.

I have 3.73s with an auto. I also have 305/35/18 Drag Radials. At 80mph I am turning 2600rpm and as far as I know my speedo is pretty close according to my GPS. I havnt been to the track yet so I cant give you any help there. You wont noticed a mind blowing difference but it is there. With my old stock tires I could burn them just as far as I could with the 3.31s just maybe a little easier.

The gears were actually the first mod I did. Before intake/tune or anything. As a matter of fact, that was the initial reason that I got a tuner was to adjust the speedo for the gear change.
I think the change from 3.31 to 3.73 is pretty noticable. I go back and forth on whether or not I should have gotten 4.10's. Most of the time, I'm happy with my 3.73's, but then I go to the track and wish I had 4.10's.
So if you going to be doing a lot of racing, I'd say go with 4.10's. If you don't plan on racing much and want a good all-around gear, go with the 3.73's
