Default can someone explain this to me.....

On my new mustang, it is stock. However, on the dealer sticker, it says, under options, that I have a 331 gearing, but it has no charge. The 331 is the stock rear end, right? Or do you have certain gear ratios that you can choose that are stock?

And also, does this ratio mean that it is better with higher speeds than it is with lower speeds? I THINK, the higher the ratio, the more low end grunt it has, correct?

3.31s are standard; 3.55s and 3.73s are stock options.

And yes, 3.73s will have more torque multiplication (low-end grunt) than the standard 3.31s. You will get the best highway MPG with 3.31s.

What I think is neat and I have never seen before is the axle ratio is printed on a sticker on the rear of the differential (if you care to crawl under your car to see...). At least it is for my 3.73 gears.

you can also check the door sticker for the rear gear ratio.
