all very valid points.

but

once you start putting real power to the tires like you currently are, those auto trannies are a serious weak link.

with a stick, just upgrade the clutch and you are pretty much set. with an auto, it's quite a bit more complicated...which equals $$$.
I bought my Bullitt with the express intention of running a blower and 420-450 RWHP.

I've already done the blown route with a auto tranny
my RoushCharger was on a 5.4 3v F-150 that had an auto tranny. the tranny in there was just fine for normal driving, but a few aspects really were bad drawbacks.
1. Low RPM launches. short of powerbraking, launches from a stop sucked ***. and that was with 3.73 gears and 80% of my 500 TQ available at 1,000 RPM.

2. I didn't like how I was restricted to certain gears at times, and the performance potential was really hurt by that. requires more driver attention and you have to lock out O/D before hammering the throttle.

3. Downshifts from Overdrive...a very quick way to destroy 2nd gear and Overdrive. extremely hard on those gears. especially if you are fully into the boost.

4. Tire spin. I could spin the tires from 1st gear through 3rd gear. but when the tires stopped spinning, the RPM's were to low and the tranny had to downshift back into 2nd gear...which then put me back into the optimum powerband...and then more tire spin. wierd to drive..and must have been weird to watch.

wish you best of luck with your trans in the future. I can't remember your final RWHP, but hopefully if you keep it 400-420 RWHP that tranny will be relatively safe

get the manual - after a while you dont even realize that you're driving stick - imo its alot more fun to drive - even in nyc traffic...

Well I definately got comfortable driving my friends Civic, so I think I know which route take It wasn't that bad at all. I will definately test drive the GT first to get a feel of the stang. Thanks for the help!

And if you get to drive one with a short throw shifter, you'll want one.
