Mine is not a DD with low annual mileage (5.6K on the odometer), so it gets changed annually right before winter hits. And this year I am starting the full synthetic routine with M1.

5k & Mobil 1

Would like to stop using Mobil 1 filters though. They're expensive. Maybe Motorcraft...but don't they make a cheap one and expensive one. Which to use?

If you're doing your oil and filter changes at 5K miles, then the standard Motorcraft oil filter FL-820S, I beleive, is more than adequate. You might want to consider going back to a synthetic blend since, at 5K miles, a full synthetic isn't protecting you anymore than a blend would. But if the few $$'s isn't any big deal, no biggie.

I've run mobil 1 previously on my older cars, but now I'm running the Motorcraft synthetic blend. Had the first change done at around 1500 miles, did the next change at 3k. Will be doing it every 3k from now on.

Only costs me $18 for 6 quarts of oil and the motorcraft filter.

I might switch to Mobil 1 again, depending on what the UOA shows with the motorcraft. From what I've read of the reviews, they are pretty darn close, and I'm not sure if the Mobil 1 is worth the extra expense. It's nice having $18 oil changes compared to the $60 oil changes my old Mazda gave me.
