Default New battery in 05 gt keeps going dead

I know there is an issue in some 05s that makes the stereo run the battery down. My car has the shaker 1000 bu I have had it six months now and neve had the battery issue when leaving the radio on. The weekend I got in the car and it almost didn't start. Let it idle for an hour and I was fine after. I forgot to trn the radio off when I parked it last night and today t barely started again. I jus put an optima n the car question is could the battery issue with the radio just start all the sudden?

When these cars exhibit this problem it doesn't always seem to follow any rhyme or reason. I've always been careful to turn the shaker 500 off before I turn the engine off and exit the cabin. Even then twice now the car has been dead when I came back to it. Once was 3 days, the other time was a week. And yet the car has at other times sat for a month and been fine.

It's that Shaker radio!

Make sure you shut off the power button before you shut off the car. I had the CD player shuffling disks all night and the battery was dead in the morning.

will replacing the headunit with a aftermarket radio fix the issue?

Be aware of the TSB on this issue.

It only takes a few tenths of a volt from one day to the next to provide a sign that your battery is on the verge. Although most car batteries fail catastrophically, others may "crap the bed" slowly over a long period (days, weeks, even months) and, if the owner is paying attention, could be nipped in the bud before it leaves you stranded. Most people don't notice until one day it doesn't start.

There are numerous threads regarding the battery issue. IMO, the MotorCrap battery is a poor performer to begin with. Add the parasitic power draw and it's a failure waiting to happen. Compound this with frequent short (less than 1-2 hour) drives and the battery is charge starved.

Leave the Shaker off when the car is off. The amp continues to draw power if the system is left on.

As it turns out that new optima battery I bought two months ago had a bad cell. The first time the car didn't want to start was the first cold snap we had. Autozone tested the batt and gave me a new ne free. At least I don't have to try and remember to turn the radio off each time I turn off the car.

Putting a new battery in AND continuing with a habit that drains the battery will eventually result in the same fate: another premature battery failure. Just because you're battery is new doesn't mean you should continue with a habit that you know causes a battery drain.

Default Battery Brain

Here is somewhat of a solution.. http://www.batterybrain.com/batteryb...ne&action=home

From what I understand, its basically a fuse you mount on your battery. When there is a large amount of power drain it automatically trips, saving your battery.

Here is the thing i am not sure of. Does the issue happen on every car with the 1000 radio or is it hit and miss? I never had the problem before and the car had been on the lot where I bought it for 6 months with the radio on. The months i have had it i never turned off the radio and things were fine until the factory batt, which was 5 years old, started to go. Just wondering if this is something every single car with the shaker stereo has in common or if this issue only happens on some cars.
