I think that most posters in this thread are reading too much into the LSx vs 4.6 comments. It doesn't appear that this thread was created to bash Ford products. Although we may all disagree with the OP about this or that, the truth is the concept of swapping a hot carbed motor into an S197 is pretty interesting. Maybe we can stick to the main intent of the thread? Anyone have useful information (non bashing) to provide?

Yeah, those new Pontiac GTO's were so popular that Pontiac couldn't give them away and then even Pontiac went belly up. Talk about "dogs" I think Pontiac and GTO fits the description just fine.

The old GTOs were great and I'd love to have one (especially the first 1964 model w/ a 4-speed and 389 - like the song says lol), but I was (and still am) VERY dissapointed in the last gen GTOs. Sure it has a nice engine, but the body/platform they chose was totally wrong. The car looked nothing special, like all the other plain jane cars from Pontiac and did not have that same aggressive muscle car look the old GTOs had. A different body and they would have been great but who ever was at Pontiac that made the decision to go with what they did was a moron. Looking at Pontiac's modern cars I can see why they killed that company. They lost their way and is nothing like they used to be.

I was looking at Goats before the Mustang. Goats were in the exact same price range. Seat of the pants feel was much better even though flat out numbers aren't much different. The 4.6 is a great engine, but it's gotta see 4 grand before it starts really being impressive (mine anyway).

Fit, finish and tons of little problems with the goat drove me away and back to my senses.

I imagine more bottom end grunt is what he's looking for.

I'll see if he has any posted on YouTube. He is serious when it comes to Ford cars and their potential.

Know what I'D like to see? A retro-style butterfly intake on an S197. That'd be AWESOME, or lame. I guess it depends on what the car looks like.

Go to YouTube and look up Techco Ram Air Butterfly Hood for 05-09 Mustangs.

As for the GTO vs Mustang dealings....
1.) I can understand fixing up an old car with all modern day electronics and safety features, as well as comforts....I cannot understand fixing a new car up with outdated technology. I will continue to stay on the band wagon of..."There's a reason the mustang has been in steady production for 45 years straight when no other "muscle car" has..."
2.) Base Price: 2006 Pontiac GTO - $31,290 (now worth 17,300)
Paid for my 2007 Mustang GT - 24,000 (now worth 16,800)
I think with the money I would have saved I would have spanked that @$$...that is, had I not stepped up to the beast I have now...
