I bought a 2005 gt convertible and the previous owner replaced the Shaker 1000 with a terrible after market stereo.

I want to restore the Shaker 1000. Am I going to run into problems with the stereo locking or anything like that

I've never actually replaced the Shaker with another Shaker, but I think you should be fine as long as you replace with the same model (1000, not the 500). It also sounds like Ford changed some things in 09+ models, so you may want to attempt to restrict your replacement unit to on or around your car's model year...

Otherwise, it seems many have done this kind of swap without having to do any sort of reprogramming.

I replaced the Shaker 500 in my '06 GT with one from an '08. No problems

swapping is pretty straight forward. These aren’t Toyota’s that lock the stereo if you swap them.
