Waiting for 2011 GT
#11
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I won't be doing much modding so I'll stick with the 2011. I didn't realize until today that ordering had already begun; if I had known that I would've done my taxes earlier heh, waiting for my refund so I can put $10K or so down.
Was doing a lot of searching on the topic of wait time, and saw one guy ordered and was told to expect to wait 4-6 months. If I order in a month, I guess that won't be so bad, I'd just like to get it before summer ends obviously (I'm in MI).
Edit - actually I think I misunderstood you, CB617. You're saying I only need the 500-1000 deposit to order, and pay the rest upon delivery...so I guess I could order now. That's great news. Thanks for the detailed answers btw.

when ordering a car NEVER put down more than the dealer really needs! He's just going to put it in the bank and earn interest.. wouldn't you rather earn that interest?
And for mods on the 5.0 they will come. Remember how much fuss there was over OHC with the 4.6 when all we knew were pushrods? We always preference what we know, that doesn't mean there isn't potential with the new stuff.

They used to say that the internal combustion engine would never work; it just wasn't viable. Horses worked perfectly fine!
The 5.0 will, eventually, be perfectly modifiable. Those who say it can't are just scared of change, or bitter.

One thing that wasn't mentioned was if you settle on the price before or after the deposit is made.
I know that incentives or rebates (if there are any) are given when the car is delivered and not ordered, but I'm not sure about negotiating a price.

Went and ordered it last night. He estimated only 3 months wait! 6-speed manual coupe GT premium, black.
Also went with the 3.73 gears. Anyone think this will be a big difference going from a '98 5-speed GT with stock gears? I've never driven racing gears before. What kind of top end do you think I'll have? I don't plan on going 150+ so I don't mind the loss there.

+1. That.... and you would have to add a blower to the 4.6 just to reach the stock 5.0 HP.

I ordered a 2011 last month - was told 4-6 month wait. Price was agreed upon in advance, all the 2011 option pricing is availble now (I got below MSRP by going through Costco). Had to leave a $500 deposit, but they won't cash my check until I actually purchase the car when it comes in.
I'm debating on going for either a 2010 with Security, Electronics, 3.73 Axle, Comfort, Glass Roof and Rear Camera or going with a 2011 with the same options minus the Glass Roof. I'm not a racer or track driver, but I do like to drive a little fast on the open road. Is there going to be a huge difference between the "feel" of the 2010 and 2011? I'm just not sure I'll be taking advantage of the large engine and 6 speed of the 2011s. There's also the incentives on the 2010s to think about.

The 2011 is worth the wait. They put out two dif. colors. They also brought back california special package. If you want basic color and engine choice my dealer confirmed yesterday he can order and production should start the 15th of this month. If you want special features you might still be on a waiting list for a little while but you can google for the changes or get a dealer to print them off their master site as the books are not even out yet. Me personally waiting on ordering in september so i can get some rebates. Rember, just because you special order does not mean you can not play the dealers against one another. I will be getting mine for invoice although it will be an order. Good luck!
