Default Brake Lines

should i upgrade to stainless steel brake lines? is it worth it?

Near as I can tell, not a priority for street, drag, or autocross use. Pads aimed a little higher up the performance tree (Hawk HPS or similar preferred, don't even look at HP+ and above for street use) and higher temperature brake fluid are far more useful.

Show car use - your call.

Road race - DOT-legal SSBL may not be the hot tip.

I was reading an article a while back about the flexing that is "allowed" by DOT standards and what brakes lines actually do when put under real world conditions. The article seemed really interesting in that basically said that the flex is a significant amount higher than what the DOT standards say.

That and if your lines are older than 3-5 years, definitely check them out and replace as necessary. Some stainless steel lines are warrantied up to 150,000 miles.

Oh, and the article was written around track use where the brake lines failed on a Corvette and put the guy into the grass...not fun
