Default E-brake freeze lock up - Home Remedy??

So my car is out of warranty and I am getting the freezing up e-brake. I was wondering if there was a home remedy, greasing the cable, rebuilding the boot, etc rather than shelling out the $50 each for a e-brake cable? Right now I just put the car in gear. Or do I have to shell out the dough??

I keep my car in gear if it's parked outside and cold. Otherwise it's in a heated garage. It's a PIA problem, and I'll probably eventually replace the cables but I rarely drive it during the winter months so it doesn't bother me too much. If your car is a DD, I think you've already come across the short term fix, keep it in gear.

+1 once you get it stuck once you will make sure it doesn't happen again. Had to get one of mine replaced couple of years ago

There isnt really a solution other than replace the cables themselves, but on my 05 I did spray a silicone base lube on the ends of them and it kept them from completley freezing making them a little more slick. I eventually ended up getting them replaced before the warranty ran out lol.
