Unhappy Irratic boost

Installed an boost gauge on my edelbrock S/C and sometime while I'm driving and punch the throttle at low rmps the boost only goes to 2.5psi all the way threw the rmp range. If i let go of the throttle and punch it again the boost goes back up to 5psi and of course the car takes off like a rocket. Is there a leak somewhere or a relief valve sticky? Need Help again!

Do you feel a loss of power when the boost gauge pegs 2.5psi? Is it a mechanical or electrical gauge? It could be the gauge the lines to the gauge or the butterfly (bypass valve on the sc).

I feel loss of power when the guage reads 2 psi, i checked the line and it seems fine. Its a mechanical gauge from autometer. Any ideas how I would test that bypass valve?

blow into the tube and see what the guage does..

this will tell you if its a gauge problem or an actual boost problem

you build boost depending on RPM and the position of the boost bypass valve

since you have a TVS, you effectively are making max boost all the time...so I'm inclined to think you have a boost bypass issue, or it's the tuning.

normally your boost bypass is open and then shuts when the throttle hits a certain percentage. with my old RoushCharger, it didn't even go shut until 80% of throttle.

I don't know how the Edelbrock setup is tuned, but I'm guessing it is very similar to the Roush I had. At a certain throttle it starts to shut, and at another predetermined point, the boost bypass is fully shut.

so depending on how hard you nail the throttle, you are only getting partial boost to a certain point...at which the bypass is fully shut and you should be seeing 100% boost. this is why custom tuning is really needed with a blower. you can move the bypass open/close points around and greatly increase the fun/power when driving.

btw, check the easy stuff. ensure the vacuum lines are good, the ferrule on the gage isn't leaking...you know, the basics

It shouldn't do that. Call Edelbrock or post here

Edelbrock tech support is very very good.
