ok Rip this is why i wanted pics right off the
bat. it sounds like you received the wrong
adapter. if you want i can post a pic of what the
adapter plate should look like.

Dynotechs website sure isn't helpful either. Quite frankly it flat out sucks. I didn't see any available adapters for your application. I hope you get it sorted out. Let us know.

Thanks. I suspect I'll have this cleared up soon.

I got a text from the shop I bought the shaft from and he mentioned to me that dynotech has gone to a replacement flange. Brenspeed is apparently unaware of that or they have older stock still that doesn't use the new setup.

Hence all the confusion leaving me scratching my head especially after the call to brenspeed. A call to dynotech directly would probably clear this all up as well.

ok thanks Riptide. that definitely does not
look like the aluminum adapter plate that
comes with the newer 3.5" dynotech shafts.

this is the best pic i have. after you remove the
stock driveshaft, you bolt this black piece on, then
the shaft bolts on to the black piece.

Thanks. Definitely an adapter plate there whereas mine is a replacement flange.

The question then becomes which is the newer setup and which is the old one.

Dynotech will know for sure. But I was already told by the shop that sold it to me that the adapter plate is the old setup.

i love the adapter, i wonder why they would
stop using it.

ok now the issue becomes the length of the
shaft like bruceh mentioned. the shaft only
has so much play in it (length wise) and you
may have to install it as is.

I called dynotech up.

Each shaft is custom ordered. You can order them with a replacement flange instead of an adapter. That is (apparently) what happened in my case.

The dynotech guy told me our cars have a reputation for being fickle with the balance of that rear axle and that the adapter types are much more common because you don't have to mess with the stock flange which is already in and balanced properly. Replacing the flange is not something most people want to bother with. He did point out there are other companies that sell driveshafts for these cars with a replacement flange.

The easiest thing to do at this point will probably be to just install it as is. If something is out of balance then I will have to take it up with the shop I bought it from and get the problem solved that way.
