Question Storage precedures

Hello all,

Another unit was in need of more people so I volenteered to deploy. I will be leaving very shortly. My question is about how to properly store my mustang for a year. Any recommendations? I figure I should drive it almost out of gas before putting it in storage so it doesn't have a bunch of old gas in it. Any advice is much appreciated.

this is what i did before storing mine for the winter:
1. put the tires on rubber mats
2. put two dryer sheets inside (friend told me it absorbs any moisture)
3. almost empty tank
4. unplug battery

  1. Fresh oil/filter change. I'd put synthetic in the crankcase in lieu of the factory synthetic blend if the car is going to sit for 1 year or more. And be sure to change it soon after you put the car back in service.
  2. Add Sta-bil and fill the tank, then drive at least 10-20 miles to get the treated fuel thru the system. Otherwise, you need to totally run the lines dry which is NOT recommended. Any untreated fuel in the system may eventually degrade.
  3. Disconnect battery or connect a battery tender.
  4. Any moisture barrier between the tires and the concrete is good.
  5. Stuff wadded aluminum foil or steel wool in the exhaust openings to keep rodents out
  6. Optional to put dryer sheets or something in the cabin to keep it smelling "purty"

+1 on what nuke said! always a full tank and sta-bil, don't leave it empty because that's how moisture will form in the gas tank!
