It should be RFID, and thus doesn't require a battery. It is awful fat for an RFID tag, though... I would imagine you'd want to replace any batteries in there on a regular schedule...

It is RFID and doesn't require batteries. I haven't opened it up and looked but that's what the tech told me. He did say that he's never heard of anyone needing to replace key fobs either.

I have two key fobs. One I keep with me and one at home. If for some reason one of them dies one me I'll use the other one. Again, that should never happen so I'm not worried about it at all.

Thanks. Like I said earlier, the only part of this system that is from Lexus/Toyota is the button itself. None of the other 7 wiring harnesses were from Toyota or Lexus. The start button also doesn't control anything except ignition, so I'm not concerned about it at all.

Maybe the pictures are misleading or something. How is that key fob fat? It's the size of a few credit cards as far as thickness goes and is smaller than a bic lighter.

If you lived in the Washington DC area and battled this traffic, you'd remove your clutch pedal too

Jegs sells the system for $799.
I will go with my 'push the clutch and it starts' mod.

Chief, RFID tags are frequently thinner than a fingernail. RFID tags are frequently put into actual credit cards (all those "wave your card at the machine" setups at gas stations use RFID tags on your card), so i can't think of any real reason for that fob to be the thickness of 4 or 5 credit cards. Unless they put a high gain antenna on there for the chip? It'd have to be awfully high-gain though, even micro tags (the ones they inject into your body) can be read from 2-3 feet away.

I was thinking that was something you could slide into a credit card slot in your wallet, but that would have to go where the money goes instead.

Still, pretty kick-*** system!

Dude let it go. Who really cares what size or how it looks. As long as Dave is happy with it and it works is all that matters.
