Default purchasing tuner and intake seperate.

If I was to purchase a CAI and then find a used SCT tuner from somewhere else, what all would i need to do to be able to use it. I know i can purchase 3 custom tunes + tuning for life @ AM from bama tuning for $150. is that all i would need? would i have to send to to SCT first to unlock it..? i've never really dealt with hand held tuners before. I got my truck live tuned.

If you are looking to buy a used tuner .... you are looking at whatever the seller is getting rid of it for...
plus probably having to unlock it. (I've heard it costs up to 150.00). Plus probably having to buy your tunes.

But you can just order a tuner with tunes for about 370.00 bucks I believe.
New tuner requires no unlock of course...
They do sell tuner/tune combos without the CAI.

Also Brenspeed offers great tunes! (that's where I got mine from and I LOVE it!)

Correct. The 150 is just fir the tunes. But if I buy a tuner used, is all I have to do is pay 150 for the tunes and I'm good to go or are there more steps since the tuner has been used before

You have to pay the 150 for the tunes.
You have to pay the price of the used tuner (what the seller wants for it.) Often in the area of 150-200 bucks
You have to pay for having it unlocked often. (another 150 bucks)

Add all three up and you are looking at paying MORE for the used tuner and tunes.
See my links for Tuner/tune combos.

Unless, of course, the used tuner you purchase is unlocked. Then, you would just buy the new tunes, which will be emailed to you (you'll specify to the tune seller what modifications you have, to include the CAI). Then you download them to the tuner via free software and you're ready to tune your car.

When it's all said and done though, you can but CAI/tuner/tune combo "packs" at the aforementioned places and save a ton of $.

that makes a little more sense then.

So if i can find an unlocked tuner, all i need to do is purchase tunes for the 4.0, download them and the load them into the car? correct?

Don't install the CAI until you have the tune for it.
