I like to think of myself as an oil connoisseur (sp?) of sorts. Atleast, I changed oil for over 10 hours today, does that count for something?

I use Motorcraft 5W-20 full synthetic and change it every 6 months. Mine is a toy and only gets driven around 5K miles a year.

mobil 1 full synthetic with the ford motorcraft filter. I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. some people say that's overkill but I've never heard of someone blowing a motor by changing the oil too much

Several years ago Consumer Reports did a study and concluded that the 3mos/3000 mile recommendation of many lube shops was more about "greasing the shop's pocket book" than actually doing anything helpful. They said that twice a year or about every 6,000 miles was sufficient under most conditions.

Of course it does depend upon the conditions your car is driven under. It's a cheap "feel good" thing if you want to do it more frequently--certainly won't hurt anything. But since I change my own so that I get a good look underneath at least twice a year, I'm satisfied with only having to crawl under the horse two times each yar.

I was perfectly content to change mine every 6 months with Motorcraft 5W-20 on my 2007 Mustang GT. Ford used to require every 6 months or 5000 miles and I never made the mileage. With the recommended OCI on the 2007 it was hard to make a case for full synthetic or more frequent OCI unless opentracking (extreme oil temps).

On the 2011 I will either use Motorcraft changed at 30% or Pennzoil Platinum changed at 0% according to the IOLM. I will use a Motorcraft Oil Filter as they have good filtration, flow and longevity. Many of the "Premium" Filters on the market sacrifice one for the other. That is not a good thing for engine longevity.

PS Last I checked pretty much all 5W-20 was synthetic blend even if it wasnt marketed as such.
