Default Custom Recalbirated Speedo?

Yes title is spelled wrong lol.

I know you can get custom speedometers.... but is it possible to get a custom speedometer with a higher max mph, then have the gauge recalibrated? I plan on doing whatever I can to my 2011 GT (once its ordered and once the shops figure everything out haha) to increase the top end, and I want the speedometer to reflect that.

Even if it takes a lot of work, what would go into such a project?

Doesn't the '11 come with a 0-160 MPH speedometer? Unless you expect to be pushing over 600 RWHP, I doubt you'll ever peg it.

I plan on doing everything I can ... the question is, can the speedometer be redone, even if its just for shiggles? Topping out pisses me off, and I would love to see how each individual mod affects my top speed. I dont really care about the quarter mile... I care about top end.

i want to do the same thing for when i start doing engine mods. last time i was at the track i was already hitting 132 on a relatively short straight i can only imagine what ill reach after mods, and going to a different course.

since my speedo only reaches 140....this is a must. especially since i plan on raising the rev limiter w/ the top end package from ford racing.

If you are just looking for top end, use a GPS. They are accurate and will record the top speed. Money in the bank. Also, where do you plan on doing this top speed testing?

on the one hand I guess you could get a custom gauge overlay made that goes to say 180mph then play with the revs per mile or the rear end conversion with a handheld tuner until it displayed correctly. you would throw off all of your mileage readings on the dash and the car would think you're going slower than you really are but you would be racking up way less mileage on the odometer so maybe it isn't bad

on the one hand that's a lot of work for something minor like that but it's your car and it's up to you. I haven't seen anything like that as an upgrade but maybe a GT500 dash would work. they only go up to 160mph though, my GT dash says 140 then has lines for 150 before it runs out.

well after typing all that I searched "mustang gt 200mph speedo" in google and got this as the first result...

apparently Saleen has the gauge overlays but you have to send them your cluster so they can recalibrate it. probably to avoid being responsible for people cheating the mileage with the method I mentioned up top this link shows a guy who got the overlays and posted some up close shots. I honestly don't really like them, too many lines, looks really busy. plus I kinda like the stock gauges sweeping all fast to try and keep up with the blower

You chose the wrong car for top speed. If you want to run at 180-190 mph, buy a c5 corvette. They are actually aerodynamic. Top speed is stupid anyways, and only for bragging rights which doesnt even matter when you get roasted at a stoplight by someone geared for normal speeds.

with enough HP any car can top out a speedo

as far as top speed being "stupid" it all depends where you live. down here in south florida the roads are so long and flat with excellent visibility you can go out in the middle of the night and pretty much do whatever you want. there's car meets where guys will race a standing mile since there's so much room. I've seen videos of guys racing up to 200mph out there. now where I just was in north carolina in the mountains then yeah, much over 100mph was pretty useless.
