I guess I just always figured the 05-09 Mustang was a modern take on the 67-70 Mustangs. So I can't really make a good statement on which I think it looks more like as I see many things from all of them. The 10-11+ are just a slightly more modernized take on the same idea the 05-09 was built on.

Future forecast: The 2014 anniversary model is going shrink in size just like the 1974 Mustang II and the focus will be on smaller size, fuel efficiency!

Ok, I'm not totally serious.

Well, not totally.:-)
So the 2014 is going to be a slightly better looking Ford Pinto. I just don't see that happening for the 50th.

Does that mean we're going to have another series of modern fox bodies? And then a new SN95...and then a new new edge...and then in like 2046 we're going to have a new S197?

To be honest, the 2015 Mustang will probably be smaller. This 2nd muscle car era we are enjoying will come to an end soon. I am going to enjoy is while it's here!

Back on the topic, I did consider the 1965-1966 models but just didn't see enough similarities. The dimensions are all severely different. I will concede that the roof to trunk lines and the side indentations have strong similarities.

The Shelby GT would be a strong argument for the 1965-1966 style.

I was just watching the Mecum Auction and they had a beauty 69 Boss 429...I saw many elements of the S197 in there.

it's really hard to pick. you can focus on a particular area and definatively say it was a certain year...but the overall package...can't do it.

do with the S197 had those wicked rear brake air ducts like the Boss did

huh?

I think it truly is a combination of different elements. The modern car has 67-68 side lines and indentations, 69-70 front and roof lines, and 65-66 roof to trunk lines. The hood lines are definitely particular to the model- rounded with a slight cowl effect.

the BOSS 429 was just a rebadged '69 Mach 1

1969 for me guys...
It shares the 4 lights idea up front (same diameter roughly), with 2 of them in the grille.
Although the 67 Shelby had that as well with inbord style depending on the State...

The tail section is from the 70 car, with the non concave panel and the prominent tail lamps.
Also that stupid rear spoiler is a carbon copy of the Mach cars
From the side, you have the small quarter glass from the 65/66 Shelby, put the SHR louvers and you have the non Shelby look of those years.

Finally, the overall size of the car can only be matched to the 69/70.

I don't mean to sway votes or anything, but check this out.

Fullsize clay model while designing the S197.
