Default Bembo package

Would you pay the $1700 for the brembo brakes on the GT? I like the 18" a lot more than the 19" ones, but I also like the idea of having the brakes upgraded from day one.

might want to check the classified section. there's been a few brake kits in there for a good price if you really want to go with an upgrade! i think they look real good

Yeah especially since I see the payment with vs without is 20 something cheaper. Now I'm still stuck on the V8 vs V6 payment. If the aftermarket for this model of engine is as good as the 4.0 then that's a tough call.

You always better off waiting and getting it done later. Unless you want it from factory.

The thing too is that with the Brembo package(you could purchase just the front Brembo kit through FRPP for around $1200) includes expensive Pirelli P-Zero tires that are nearly $400 each(retail) and I'm sure the 19 X 9 wheels aren't cheap in the aftermarket either. To duplicate all this in the aftermarket, you're looking at around over $3000 before labor...........

The braking distance isn't improved, the Brembos just don't fade after heavy use. If you don't auto cross or road race, they are kinda useless.

I'm sure it's a great upgrade, but not sure if I'd do it or not...anyway to test drive a GT with & without the Brembo brake upgrade? That might make your decision alittle easier.

Before deciding to plunk down an extra $1700 for Brembos tell us why you think you need them. There are pros and cons to this setup and really putting some thought into how you are going to use the car will help you make the decision. For example - as previously mentioned, for the most part this is not a performance upgrade. Using same tires and same pads the stopping distance is not going to be significantly different. As delivered from the factory the base brakes can easily be faded - but that is due to the fluid and the pads...not the calipers and the rotors. With very cheap and simple upgrades the base setup will offer the same level of performance in terms of stopping distance and resistence to fade as any big brake kit for 99% of users. In fact, at some level they are a performance detriment - bigger rotors and bigger calipers and the wheels and tires for them weigh more and weight is always the enemy, especially unsprung weight. On the other hand, they can handle more heat because of those big rotors thus for extended high performance driving like wheel-to-wheel on a race track or serious long distance canyon carving they will be more consistent (the other 1%). The Brembos have a different feel about them that you may or may not like - they will offer a harder, better modulated pedal. They also look sharp (very subjective).

Personally, for my use I'd get them. But I run my car on a race track about 15 times per year and can really make use of their advantages. For most users, the only thing better about them will be the looks and to some degree the different pedal feel - both very subjective things that only you can put a price on.

I like the Brembos, but it's a call on how you'll use the car. The '11 front rotors are bigger than previous years, 13.2 vs 12.4, so your system is one step ahead of previous years from the get go. The package itself is a deal, since you not only get the brakes, but also wider(255's)/stickier tires, and lighter wheels. The Brembo pkg wheels are about 3lbs lighter per wheel, so again, if you are going to autocross/race the car, then those are things to consider.
