Default do tires go bad?

sorry if this sounds stupid but some guy local to me is selling off of his 07 gt the stock bullet rims with the pirelli tires. He said they have only 700 miles and have been sitting in his garage in plastic for 3 years. I saw pics and they look good, but his price is 150. seems low to me with only 700 miles. can tires like dry rot or anything like that or should i pick these up at that price?

Check the date of manufacture on the sidewall. OE tires on an '07 sitting in storage out of the sun and in reasonable temperatures should still have plenty of life left on them and not degraded due to tire rot. Is $150 the price per wheel and tire? Without knowing how they were stored, my gut tells me that they should be fine. Tire rot isn't that hard to see and feel.

its 150 for all 4 of them and the pics show nothing suspicious...they look good and the rims look perfect. one pic shows all 4 slightly wrapped up in plastic sitting in a garage.

Yes tires can go bad sitting developing dry rot. They can also develop flat spots that will give you a terrible vibration. But that usually happens when they are mounted on a vehicle, and the weight of the vehicle is pushing down on one spot for a long time. If it is the rims you are after 150 for 4 seems pretty good to me. By the way mileage is really irrelevant. It is how much tread is left on the tires. Depending how this person drives a new set of tires can be smoked with less than 100 miles.

basically i need new tires and was only interested because it seemed like a great deal for 4 rims and tires. I actually want 18" black bullets and tires but costs too much for me right now. Its the same rims and tires i have right now so if the tires are no good than it will be duplicate rims so i guess i will just pass on this deal. dont want to chance nothing.

i would buy them whether youd use them or not and turn around and sell them for a profit, the wheels alone could be sold for more, let alone with the tires.

my 67 mustang (not in running condition) has been sitting in the garage for roughly 10 yrs. the tires are still holding air! i would guess as long as there is no water or anything to corrode it and if they are wrapped up, they should be pretty safe.

I asked this question to my tire guy, whose family has owned a tire store for decades.
He said that modern, radial tires do NOT develop flat spots. As long as there's been proper air pressure, they'll be fine.
The flat spots thing is a left over from the days of bias-ply tires, which you do not use on modern Mustangs.
And FWIW, the price could be low because he wants to get rid of them! I got 2 wheels with tires mounted that I can't sell for just $50 each! Will probably have to take them to the dump.
