Default Shaker 1000

Is the head unit (6disc indash) have a build in amp for the sub/spekers? See I would like to replace the 6disc head unit with a touch screen but would like to leave the speakers/amps completely stock. I know It is a waste to get the 6disc but this is what I would like to do.

The amp is not part of the Shaker 1000 head unit. However, I don't know where exactly it's installed. You should look for a wiring schematic of the Shaker 1000 system.

The head unit has internal amps for the door and deck speakers. The subs are powered by external amps. Two in the trunk behind the woofer box, and two behind the drivers side kick panel. There are wiring harness adaptors that will allow you to replace the head unit and use the stock speakers, wiring, and amps. It is pretty simple to do. After 4 warranty replacements of the skipper head unit, I replaced mine. Search in the forum for "fix for skipper 1000" for the thread on my replacement. I have part numbers listed for the wiring harness and for the dash spacer unit you will need.

Hawgman,

When you replaced the head unit, do you notice an improvement in sound? If so, what improvements did you notice. I was thinking of replacing my head unit but wasn't sure if there was any significant improvement in the quality of sound.

Not to be picky but there are acutally 4 amps behind the 1000 sub box, one for each voice coil (2 subs with dual voice coils). I "think" they are about 65w rms each, for a whopping grand total of 260w rms to the trunk sub box. I took pics of it all when I had it all apart to install my sequential tail lights.

Yes, there were sound quality improvments over the stock unit. Biggest improvement, no more damn skipping!

Would you mind if I would see the pictures? I have not ordered a car yet so I would like to see how much room it takes up as well.
