In Texas, we pay doc fees also. I asked the dealer what they are, and they beat around the bush. The salesman was more honoest, he said he does not know what it it.

We have alot of lawyers in Texas too. Most of them are in Houston and the Dallas metroplex area. Unfortunately, they do not do anything useful like prevent hidden fees from entering product and service prices, they are all damn ambulance chasers driving up medical costs and ruining healthcare for all Americans.

Here in Missouri you pay sales tax when you go and get your plates. Stops people from buying cars in counties with cheaper sales tax. Of course I live in St. Louis county which is controlled by democrats and the sales tax is over 9 percent while Jefferson county it's under 7!

In Texas, it is illegal to put more tax on a car than the state sales tax.

For example, lets say the state sales tax is 8% (it's not, for you fellow Texas who are privy to the Texas state sales tax, this is just an example). No matter where you go in Texas, no matter which county you are in (there are 254 counties in Texas), you will pay that 8% sales tax and no more. You cannot be charged more, even if a place normally tacks on 2 or 3% more to the base state sales tax rate. I think it is strictly illegal to add more sales tax to the base Texas sales tax when you buy a car.

2012? Is there some bill in the works for the next Texas legislative session to repeal this sales tax limit in our state?
I know our state legislature will meet in 2011, but when they pass the laws, they do not wait a year to take effect, they take effect the immediate following September.

Did you mean that I should wait 'til Sept 2011 and I will get hit with the additional local sales tax added to the base sales tax on a new car?

I'm waiting a year, then I'm 99.5% sure I'm pulling the trigger on a black 11 5.0 with either a glass roof or a vert. I'll probably opt out for a glass roof though. Automatic.
