Default Oil Outside Valve Cover?

I was showing off my GT to a friend and he noticed that there was about a teaspoon of oil pooling around the spark-plug-looking thing (there are four plugs with electrical wiring coming out and a 5th one: I figure the first four are the plugs and I don't what the last one is). Anyways, he mentioned that if anyone spilled oil while filling it, it souldn't be on that side since the oil cap is on the opposite side of where my 'problem' is. So I took it into the dealer and they'll let me know what the problem is. What do you think the problem is guys?

One problem is you don't know what those "spark plug looking" things are. They are your injectors. Does your car smoke at start up? I would hope not, but it's possible, as there are lemons out there. If not, I would guess that during the initial factory fluid fill, some spilled, as a machine does it, and it can be sloppy. However, prior to pick up, the dealer should have noticed this and taken care of it during the pre-sale clean up. Weird. Let us know what the story is, I would bet I am close.

Thanks for the knowledge. I didn't mention though, but the oil is actually not pooling on one of injectors, but the 5th one, the one closest to the headlights. The car does not smoke up at start up and there is absolutely no problem driving it. The amount of oil is tiny but I eliminated spill as source because dealer cleaned it up and told me to drive for a day and see if its back; I checked this morning and it was there. Thanks for your input.

LongHornMustang:

I had the EXACT same issue on mine. I posted here a couple of times but nobody else had seen it or recognized it. I continued to wipe mine down and now its gone and it hasn't returned. Don't know where it came from or why. I had a half-hearted theory it was some kind of "seepage" that was being squeezed out by the warming and cooling of the engine.

In any case, keep your eye on it. Mine somehow "healed" itself.

I don't have internet so I'm not able to respond immediately. So I took it into the dealership and they fixed it in a day. I have the invoice(?) sheet for the work and it says: "Fresh Oil showing on top of valve cover front of engine, right side looking at front of car. Oil leaks found oil on top L/S valve cover area. Cleaned area, added oil dye trace. Source leak with black light at valve cover leaking at VCT sensor area; broken seal. Replaced valve cover."

Wow... they replaced the whole valve cover because of a seal?

You should have gotten them to polish it before they put it back on!

I also have a Drivers side Valve cover leak. Just a light film of oil residue and ONLY on the drivers side. Sounds like a poss recall in the making. I am going to have mine into the dealer probably in the next few weeks. Need to swap out the CAI & Tune first.
