There's a good chance that at the OE level, rear crash requirements drive this sort of thing, as you can't be having suspension components poking through the floorpan or tearing it apart and skewering/slicing a center rear seat passenger in the event of a rear end collision (never mind the likely whiplash).

Norm,
The mount is thicker and will not deflect as the original does. The UCA has a poly bushing to also eliminate deflection. Generally on the mount, they have 2 holes. One in the stock location and one that will alter the IC of the rear. The UCA is the same length as stock, unless you get the adjustable one, then you have to set your own pinion angle. I can only speak for myself, but I used the stock location and set the UCA to the stock length.

The parts are marketed to limit deflection and therefore limit wheel hop. Usually they are sold with LCA's as a set. I did mine a little backwards as I installed the LCA's and when that didn't eliminate the hop, I installed the UCA, bracket and LCA relocation brackets. Again, my guess is that if I would get rid of the LCA relocation brackets and dropped to the lower hole on the UCA, I would probably alter the IC enough to stop the wheel hop and get rid of the LCA brackets. Maybe I will try that sometime.

Also check out the UMI page. They have good prices also and I have been happy with my parts from them.

like someone said, on my 10 with the blower and stock suspension i had wheel hop on hard acceleration if the car hooked. once i lowered i have never had wheel hop. I remain convinced that what some think is wheel hop is actually the traction control and stability control kicking in. it feels very much like wheel hop. stability control is on on the 10 cars (not sure about 09 down cars) even when TCS is off. You have to hold the TCS button for a few seconds to turn it all off, my car says advanced track off. FTR, i was too lazy to read this whole thread if someone said this my bad.

also, if you pick the right shocks and springs the ride is hardly affected. the koni yellow/strt and steeda sport springs are 98% as easy riding as stock,

Lowering slightly puts the rear suspension in a slightly bettter position as far as anti-squat geometry and launching are concerned (the amount of anti-squat increases as the car squats from there, rather than initially DEcreasing as with the car at its OE ride height). This isn't a huge change, but it is apparently enough in at least some cases/circumstances.

TCS but no stability control on the '08's.

intersting point that was made about "I think some may be confusing wheel hop with traction control kicking in "

Thats interesting because I had had the same exact wheel hop issues with the traction control off as ON.

I was out playing last night TC turned ON (default)....on some colder wetter roads

Got a little loose a few times and felt the TC kicking in and correcting the car
at the same time I was making the same corrections...Felt like a weird autopilot.

Felt nothing like the wheel hop I suffer from . TCS on or off

Same way I do it. Nice brake stand, then ride it and slip it into second. Get's a nice 75+ foot burnout and a lot cheers.

My 5.0 has severe wheel hop. I installed BBR billitt LCA's which did nothing. The solution is to either lower the car an inch and/or install an UCA.

my point was not only do the cars have traction control, which is defeated with the button on the console, but they Ave stability control too. Stability control stays on even when you turn off traction control. I turned off traction control once in a hurry messing around =on a deserted road and got into the throttle deep and the car hopped like crazy. I realized i didn't hold the button in the few seconds it takes to turn off advanced track too. Advanced track allows wheel spin in a straight line (TC off) but once it senses the car get sideways at all it kicks in.

I can tell you form doing it that you can get the car very sideways before stability control kicks in and it feels like the car is hopping all over the road when SC does step in. Try holding your traction control button down until you see Advanced track off in the info display. See if that helps at all.
