Default Alternator going out?

Hello Mustang Enthusiasts!

I have a question for you all. I own a 2006 Mustang GT and I have been having a whining noise coming from the engine that seems to be getting worse. One of my friends and I were trying to pinpoint the location of the sound yesterday and it appears that it may be coming from the alternator.

My question is, has anybody else experienced this same or similar problem with their mid-2000's model mustang. If so, am I right in saying it's probably the alternator? And if so, how much did it cost you to get it fixed?

By the way, sorry that my first post happens to be a thread about a problem I'm having with my Mustang, but I wanted to see if I could get some answers before taking it to the shop.
