Does the Army pay for your car transport or you have to do it yourself? How much does it cost to bring it overseas?

They will pay to send one (it will be the wifes Audi cuz she needs the AWD where we are going). I will pay to ship mine. When I came back last time, it cost about $1200 to ship from Germany to Houston, TX. So I am gonna guess about $1200-1500.

I think it would be a lot more shipping it through a private organization. As it is now he rides along and it gets drop-shipped from a plane w/ a parachute.

Does your car have to be inspected once over there before you are allowed to drive it?

I thought it would be much worse too. But it will be well worth it to have the mustang over there.

Yes and no. At least the last time I was there, german customs didnt look at it because most US emissions and safety standards are higher for US vehicles than for EU vehicles. But the base will do a cheesy inspection on it before they will let me tag it.

I know. The hardest part is gonna be waiting for it on the other side. Depending on when I drop it off (if the boat is empty or full) it can take up to 2-3 months. I am gonna ship it early though and drive a beater around here for the winter. Probably get a subaru or something cheap.

I remember when I moved to Ireland for awhile it took our furniture 3 months to arrive. It cost enough that in retrospect I should have just sold it and bought new stuff abroad.
