Default Whipple which one?

Hi again

I still still on the hunt for Whipple for my 05 GT but need a little advice from the experts. What's the difference between a Whipple that's sold for a 05 or 09? Some sites are selling a kit that will fit any 05 to 09 GT and doesn't specify if its for a Auto or Stick and then some sites are offering kits for a certain year and transmission. Reading over the install guide it never asks what type of Whipple kit you purchased or transmission your installing so really what's the difference...is there any? If I purchased a Whipple kit for an 08 Manual to install it on an 05 Auto for example what would be the stumbling block? Also notice some have tuners included and some you have to send off for it...is that the difference?

Hope someone help out a clueless newbie!

Thanks again

Stu

There were changes in spark plugs, heads, and the cooling system made between the 05-09 model years. The different kits account for these changes. Just buy the one that is said to work for your 2005 car and you will have the proper spark plugs (old style) and coolant system parts. There shouldn't be a difference in the kits for either transmission, that will only be a difference in the tune. Only the year of the car should change the parts included in the kit.

what both of you said!

Unleashed was spot on for everything he said and you were close about weather tuner was included. The one you send off for, you have to give them all the car info then, like what mods are on the car and such. The ones that come with the tuner, are kits that were bought by a vendor and were purchased as a "tuner kit" and the vendor made there own package out of it and usualy include the tunning specific to the vehicle.

Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it.

Reason I posted the question is I have been offered one at a very reasonable price but its been used on an 09 and of course I have an 05. I have replaced my plugs recently to HT1's so I think I am good on the plugs and I have a Diablo tuner ready to go.

Anyone else know if there is much of a difference, as I have been offered it for a good price I don't mind dropping a few bucks on a couple of parts ordered from Whipple provided it not like half the kit.

If its not going to work I will pass but would appreciate your input.

Thank you

FYI for a supercharged application your goint to want to have the HT0 plugs. The HT1 are stock heat range. Also the Diablo is a good tuner, but just so you know, most of the mail order shops do not use them for supercharged applications. That said, if your gonna have it dyno tuned anywy, not a big deal. Have you considered other superchargers? You can look at getting a tuner kit and shaving some cash seance you already have some parts or are willing to put it together.

The difference in the kit is gonna be the water cross over unit. Ford changed the design in 07. This is the reason you will see some of the kits for the 05-06 and 07-09.

What should come with the kit is are the following, injectors, stock whipple injectors are the 38's. They are the same one used in the Ford GT. Belt--gates belt Ko18223 12 psi belt depends on the pulley you get. 3.125 3.375 3.5 or other. Make sure the lower intake gasket is not torn, if so replace it.

Just so you know the you could run 12psi on the stock block so long as you have a good tune. I would highly recommend a dyno tune. You should also get the intake and tune along with the supplied Whipple tension pulley. Along with various nuts and bolts.

Before you buy make sure the pulley snout spinns freely. It should spin and be a little tight in one area.

The big difference is going to be with the thermostat. Ford changed the location and housing design in 07. I'm sure you could either get the updated Ford parts or get the 05-06 supercharger compatible parts from whipple. Your best bet would be to call Whipple and ask whats best.

Thanks again

The Diablo is brand new so I guess I could return it and get $300 to use towards the Whipple and the same with the plugs.

I have not really looked at many other SC as I have always read good things about the Whipple and have studied the install guide a few times over I just had my heart set on it.

Going back to the differences mentioned when reading the install guide it did mention about the location of the thermostat and if its an 07 it went inside the crossover but otherwise inside the original thermostat housing after removing the stock thermostat....does that sound the same for the 09?

The crossover when reading the install guide says to use the metal spacer which makes the crossover fit perfectly on an 05 otherwise it will only fit an 07 ....again wonder if this is the same deal for the 09?

Will call Whipple tomrrow and see if they can help too.

Thanks

Stu

So I spoke to Whipple today and they confirmed that its a crossover issue and I would need to buy a new crossover $400 for the 09 kit to make it work on the 05.

Not sure what to do now, spend it or wait it out for another kit to come along?
