Default Wheel Fitment

Curious if a set of 18" wheels from a 2008 GT500 will fit my 2005 GT. Someone please let me know. It would look great and I could fit 300s on the back instead of the 275s I have on it now.

you shouldn't have any problems putting wheels from a GT500 on a GT...

Yes. Very minor difference in offset, if any. If I recall, the offset difference between my '07 OE 18' fanblades and my set of '07 GT500 takeoffs was about 2 mm; maybe 5 tops.

If the '08 GT500's are 9.5" wide like my '07s, the widest you can safely go is about 285. Check the tire specs. It'll tell you what the wheel width range is for that particular tire size. If you're running 275's now on anything smaller than a 9" wide wheel, you're out of spec.

Read the note at the bottom of the page. It applies if your car was originally delivered with 16" or 17" wheels. This doesn't mean that fitting these wheels without getting the steering stops = some complete fail, just that you could encounter a little rubbing somewhere under some extreme conditions such as trying to steer all the way hard up against full lock, full lock + bump, etc.

Most 295/45's are OK'ed for 9.5" wheels (just barely), and Nitto's NT555R DR in 305/45 is OK on 9.5" as well (ditto). 295/35's and the Nitto NT555R in 305/40 are not (10" minimum). The only 295/40 tire I can even find, I can't get to the data for (Falken Azenis RT615K autocross tire).

By coincidence, I go to pick up a set of these wheels myself, either tomorrow or Saturday AM. Some guy in a brown truck left a stack of 255/45-18's on my step yesterday afternoon.

Um, you will need the steering stops
unless you like inner tire rubbage...

Note: For vehicles with 16" wheels from the factory:
-installing 17" x 8" wheels, use steering stop 4R3Z-3932-BA
-Installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA
For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory:
-installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA

What brand of 255/45-18s Norm?
And why not 275/40-18s?
I did the 255/45-18s last time
and its time for 275/40-18s this time.
BFG G force KDWIIs last time.
Just want ideas on what brand to get next.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics . . .
are not available in 275/40.

Personally - I wouldn't put a 275/40 on only a 9.5" wide wheel unless I was width-limited by competition rules to that number, or unless everybody stops making the 255/45. Even at that, 275/40 might not be a clear choice over 245/45 (yes, I know that's half an inch "over").

If I'd gone with a 10" wheel, I might have done 275/40's, but I've never seen any other wheel for these cars that I like as much as this one. I tried to see if I could have had my car built with this combination, but the dealership wouldn't go for it, so I've been chasing this for a while. The 18x10 that Sam sells was the fallback position if the SVT/GT500's had ceased production, purely on the dimensions.

Here's what temporarily lives in what is officially called the "family room" (but which either I managed to take over by gradual encroachemnt or because my wife figured it would be best if most of my inside-the-house stuff could be restricted to it). The short stack is a set of 225/45-18 Michelin All-Season Plus tires for her Subie. Brown left those the day before. Tire Rack should be very happy.

Oh yeah, the little shop that does mostly walk-in business just called me to say the wheels are in, and I'm a toll call for them. Found them by the "Where to buy" feature from the FRPP site. That kind of service is worth pitching a plug for.
