+1 I didn't even mention the bogie counter. Another really great feature. It does sometimes show multiple bogies when there's only one, but it's due to either multidirectional RADAR or the RADAR bouncing. Still another plus for the V1.

I had an Escort 9500i ($500 detector) and thought it was the greatest thing on earth until I got hit twice for speeding with the detector on and it never made a peep. Both times TX State Troopers. Not sure if they have some new non-detectable radar but on one occasion he was coming right towards me and the thing should have alerted but did not.

I'm sure the detector saved me plenty of times but with TX's 'points' system I racked up enough points over 3 years of owning this car to get hit with a $100 'driver responsibility' surcharge by DPS which pissed me off enough that I don't speed anymore. I prefer money staying in my own pocket.

Best defense against radar, be the one HOLDING the radar

A smart cop with lidar will have a good vantage point where he can see a LONG way down the road. That gives him the ability to develop a "tracking history" and select the car he believes is speeding. Its amazing how many people still believe that if they are in the middle of a pack of cars, then they cant be singled out. If your that guy, your gonna get the ticket.

With the instant on, if he is in a known false area that most people ignore, all the better for the cop.

I am running a Beltronics 995 Vector...saved my a** a hundred times at least...the main thing for me is when I get an alert I instantly and aggressively shut it down to the speed limit...seems to work so far...28k on my GT and 7500 miles on my Snake without a ticket...(of course now I have jixed myself saying that!)

Police can't sit in the area of a false alarm and use the same band as the false alarm, otherwise they will get interference. The 9500i only records that exact frequency and will alert if the cop is using any other frequency in that location (which he has to). But if you have any other radar detector, you will be used to it going off in that spot every day. Then when the cop sits there with a different band than the false alarm and pings you, you have no idea - unless you have the bands memorized by sound.

i have escort 8500. little older but still works good. have saved me 100000000 times.. usally im 15 over the speed limit all the times. lol.. just depends on how deep your pockets are and what your willing to spend.

No detector will save you 100% of the time, but my Escort 8500 x50 has saved me a bunch of times. Your best defense is your eyes. Keep looking way down the road, both sides, for that car on side of the road. If you do get a warning, and you're speeding, SLOW DOWN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. That's all you can do. What scares me more than radar or laser is those damned airplanes. Nothing works against them.

I had the 8500i, but gave it to my parents and bought a 9500i. The 9500i is the best detector on the market now (9500ci), but the Valentine 1 is second. I would rate the 8500i probably third/fourth with the equally comparable bel products. dont waste your time with cobras, whistlers, ect. buy beltronics, escort, or valentine. The good thing about escorts (and possibly beltronics) are that you can do the detector now, then add a laser jammer later if your heart desires. I don't think valentine has an integrated laser jammer yet.

I would beg to differ with you. Every training class I have been to says that the interference from being parked in a false area is not enough to throw off the lidar.
