Oh, that is odd. Thanks. About how much would it cost to have a dealer paint a bumper?

While I'd never go to a dealer for bodywork since they can't find their butthole with their finger stuck in it, I'm sure they'd charge you about $400 minimum...
I do those for about $300 with install.

Keep in mind that the first check they offer will be about 40% below what it woukd cost to repair it. Plenty of people take the check and will not repair their car. The body shop ends up getting it adjusted once the car is taken apart. Your pics show that the bumper core is at least bent. When you take the cover off your foam core may also be damaged. Whatevdr you do, DO NOT cash the check until they have adjusted the payout after inspecting the damage with the bumper cover off.

Yeah, I'm definitely not accepting anything to low. Also, I'm sure the foam core is damaged and I think the bumper is bent a little bit on the end.

Only reason I mention dealership is because I thought they'd provide the highest quote for the repair.

Am I wrong in thinking I can get a quote from a dealer, have Statefarm give me a check for that amount, and then use the check to fix the car myself?

If he owes on the car still, the check is made out to him and the shop.

If no body shop was chosen at the time they write the check, it's made out to the owner and the lienholder.
Which is a PITA because you have to show the car repaired before the check can be signed.

Supplements always go to the shop...

I'm confused. Who is He? The driver of the other car? They'd give him the check to fix my car?

My car is paid off.

I've had an accident before with my 93 buick (again, not my fault). An adjuster came by, gave me their estimate, I accepted it, and got a check. Didn't go to a body shop or anything. Of course I didn't fix the car because the check was worth more than the car.

Sorry, we overlapped our posts... I should have used the quote.
The "He" was referred to you.

As far as getting an estimate from other than the Insurance, it only applies when it's a small company that doesn't have enough appraisers or an out of State company with no available independent adjusters.
They usually don't call for one under $2000 in damage and they ask for 3 estimates from different shops and go with the cheapest one, of course.
State Farm is a big company so they'll always send their adjuster even on a $500 claim...

Thanks for the clarification. I've been trying to get this process started, but it appears I can't until Monday because the Kentucky office isn't open (the other driver's home base) and the Georgia office can't do anything until Kentucky gets all the required info. I guess I'll just have to sit tight until then.

If your handy you could fix it yourself. Have the parts painted and bolt them on. Might be quicker than having a shop do it too.

Someone backed up into me also. I told him the cost of everything and he wrote me a check and I got to do all the work. I enjoyed it actually. My bumper looked similar to yours and it was fine. The mounts were not damaged at all. You could mod the front end if you do it yourself too!
